The role of the Head ofExternal Communications is to manage the external profile and reputation of CBRE. Working with the Head of Communications this role will lead CBRE’s strategy to promote and safeguard reputation and lead all media relations. Key stakeholders will include representatives of priority business areas and the role will closely align with colleagues in marketing to ensure campaigns are leveraged effectively in the media and messages are consistent and conveyed with impact. Acts as a primary contact for the media and a key contributor for social media. Responsible for managing three direct reports.

Key responsibilities:

  • Set and deliver the PR strategy for CBRE’s UK and CE business, by working with the leadership teams to translate business objectives into market-leading media coverage.

  • Position CBRE as a leading business advisor, supporting the transition outside of real estate.

  • Structure the external comms team to ensure optimal delivery of a UK PR strategy, with a key focus on growth areas to support the business strategy.

  • Lead and strengthen CBRE’s media engagement strategy, ensuring spokespeople are positioned as market experts.

  • Oversee and actively drive media activity across the team, including owning top tier media relationships, supporting interviews, developing news stories and responding to media enquiries.

  • Lead the comms community across CE to drive media coverage, share best practice and actively leverage media opportunities.

  • Work closely with the Research team to drive visibility for thought leadership.

  • Work with the Head of Communications and Global Corporate Communications team to manage issues and corporate deals that arise, and work closely with other corporate business functions, including People, Compliance and Legal around sensitive media issues.

  • Lead the external comms strategy for all corporate issues and opportunities, including those around DE&I and the Gender Pay Gap.

  • Lead and support the team to ensure a positive media profile for CBRE connected to major industry events, such as MIPIM, EXPO Real and MAPIC.

  • Work closely with the director of internal comms, ensuring consistency of message internally and externally, and best leveraging material across all comms channels.

  • Deliver social media related to the wider external comms strategy, supporting the corporate social media team and individuals to use social media effectively.

  • Ensure measurement and reporting is in place and utilized effectively to track and optimise the team’s performance and ensure activity is supporting business priorities.

  • Management and career development support for direct reports. Act as a communications leader across the wider team, providing consultancy and mentoring where needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in Commercial Real Estate

  • Relevant communication experience in house

  • Experience in leading and managing a team

  • Experience of crisis communications

  • Clear understanding of digital channels and the possibilities they represent to adapt all media relations
